A little nook of the backyard garden
but it tells so many stories
of my traits and values,
evokes so many emotions.
The tomato vine grew from seeds,
that I collect from the kitchen.
Resourcefulness.
The flamingo statues were once shiny pink.
Sun and rain weathered them,
rusty patches now.
Impermanence.
The neon-pink rose blooms twice a year,
only when the weather is right.
Opportunity.
The dracaena was bought
twelve years ago; still growing strong.
A friend, that has seen my struggles,
A witness.
The birdbath attracts finches and sparrows.
I had bought it with my first job salary.
I clean the gunk, fill it with fresh water.
Kindness.
The guava tree, the largest in the garden.
I had to have it, a bridge to childhood.
I crush the leaves and inhale,
I am transported to the past.
Nostalgia.
