The Silent Door
I heard it move in the corner,
A whisper pressed against the wall,
Breathing secrets I could not name,
Shadows curved like old fingers.
The floor creaked beneath no weight,
I touched the cold air,
It moved through me, unseen,
A presence older than night.
The door leaned closer,
It waited without hands,
My heart followed the sound,
Into silence older than time.
The shadows bent like water,
I reached for them in vain,
They wrapped around my thoughts,
And vanished before my eyes.
Cold air pressed against my cheeks,
Whispers pressed against my ears,
The night held me like a cage,
Its secrets heavier than breath.
I stepped back into darkness,
The door closed without sound,
The house exhaled slowly,
And I became part of its wait.
