The Tickle Twitch Spiders

My entry for the unnecessary line challenge

In a cobwebby corner where moonbeams all gleam

Live the tickle twitch spiders who bounce like a dream

They skitter in circles with giggles that squeak

And practice their spookiness seven days a week

🕷️

They wobble on tiptoes in delicate rings

And hum spider songs on shimmering strings

They’re cute as a button but have attitude

A bundle of spooky and sugar sweet mood

🕷️

One time a spider stole my sandwich and refused to apologize.

🕷️

But anyway... back to the cuties who dance in the night

Who twirl tiny lanterns of lavender light

They shuffle and scuffle in their cobwebby queues

Adorable phantoms in midnighty hues

🕷️

So, if you hear tapping that tickles your ear

Don’t tremble or tumble or tremor with fear

It’s only the spiders who love to appear

The sweet little creepers who think you’re a dear

I should share this with my best friend who can’t stand spiders.

  • WOW. Amazing. Thank you

  • Yikes....I hope that I will never have one coming out of my ear! This is a poem I'd like to share with older kids. Has a Shel Silverstein ring to it.

The Tickle Twitch Spiders certainly sound like trouble makers, Sara. Your use of Alliteration creates a playful rhythm that makes the underlying grim tone even more effective. I found the Personification of their 'wobble on tiptoes' particularly unsettling as it brought them too close to my own nature. The Anacoluthon regarding the stolen sandwich was a brilliant jolt; it provided a genuine chuckle in the midst of the tension. The Assonance in 'twirl tiny lanterns of lavender light' shows superb control. A wonderful entry for the challenge! 🤗🌼

These spiders feel like they escaped from a slightly spooky bedtime book I wish existed. Sweet, silly, and charming all the way through.

This would make an excellent children’s book!

This is awesome! Now I want to practice spookiness seven days a week. The way you write here is a bit like the way I think, rhyming rhyming then an irrelevant thought about sandwich, anyway keep going. I just love it!❤️

Cute stuff Sara! You may want to consider putting together a children's book of spooky poems that showcases this one! It reminds me of Shel Silverstein! Awesome work my friend! 🫶🏾💕

I didn't realize it was for the unnecessary line challenge and thought 'the sandwich line seems out of place but whatever." This is fantastic.

This popped up on my feed after I saw your comment on mine. I love this! I love spiders and other creepy crawly things much to the dismay of my children.
