humanity
Mental health is a fundamental right; the future of humanity depends on it.
Ms. Cellophane
In middle school one of my favorite musicals was "Chicago" with music from John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and book by Ebb and Bob Fosse. One song that particularly caught my attention was "Mr. Cellophane." It was the only song that talked about real feelings and part of me could relate to that feeling of invisibility. It wasn't until recently that I understood the falsity and deceit of this song as well.

Mental Health: the Ongoing War with Self
Dear Toughest Woman I Know, Who could you be, I wonder? The immediate answers are also the most obvious choices. Who wouldn’t acknowledge their mother, grand-mother, aunts, sisters, friends, Icons, or someone they know personally, and admire for accomplishing such and such, in spite of something being in the way? That’s how heroes are made in the eyes of the beholder. Success and victory grant the right to be “tough”, “resilient”, etc.

Freedom to Choose
Who desires a loss of freedom? I don't. Yet, there may have been many ways in which freedom is handed over to external events, internal events, or to others. Your freedom to choose is the key to your state of being. It is your power to choose how both internal and external events affect you. This is not to say that those events are unimportant and should be avoided at all costs. I am only stating that you have the power to choose which events you give your attention to and how you let them affect you.

Brackish Hearts
The water below held the depths of a great many lifetimes, held memories of a time before I existed and would hold many more of a time after my existence. I wondered if it captured the emotions of those that passed it by, grasped on to a bit of each one and buried it deep below. I mused at what stories lay hidden in that brackish river. But in the black of night, all I could see was the ebony surface, the shine of the moon glinting off the contours of the small, rhythmic waves as they gently lapped against the rocky sidewall of the bridge.

Yes, anxiety and depression exist in POC communities
A common lesson I was taught by my parents during my childhood is that you won't know if you don't ask. Can I go over a friend's house to spend a night? I won't know unless I ask (but let's be real, the answer 98% of the time was no). As I aged into adulthood, that simple lesson was slowly forgotten until I realized that I still needed to ask questions to get a better understanding of aspects of life that affected me, including my mental health.

A Neurohacking Wish List for the Stuck Entrepreneur
Fiction isn’t really my thing, but hey, I gave it a go. I saw an ad for Vocal’s Little Black Book challenge and a half price entry fee of $4.95 per month. That’s doable I thought. Boom! Add to cart! If I won the challenge a cool $20,000 could be mine. All I had to do was think of a story that included a little black book and someone coming into $20000.
