Who was Charles Jackson French?
Charles French is a World War II hero you will hear very little about. The reason why is about as obvious as the reflection from a mirror. In September 1942, Charles was pulling a life raft with fifteen injured sailors around his waist. He swam for six to eight hours. Now imagine doing that in shark infested waters, oh by the way the Japanese are trying to kill you and oh you have to deal with racism as well.

What People Really Mean When They Say Thank You for Your Service
On Veterans Day and Memorial Day, you hear it a lot. Your Facebook friends post pictures of themselves and their relatives in military uniforms, and the comments frequently include the phrase, “Thank you for your service.” It’s become the “have a nice day” of the new millennium. The number of people who sincerely mean it is questionable.

Forward
It’s not every day you are told you are being attached to a forward unit. For the guys in my platoon, you would have thought we had just won the lottery. Marines are funny that way, I guess. We were a weapons platoon at the time. Three rifleman, Lcpl Dodorice, Lcpl Wolf, Lcpl Bill. Six mortars, Lcpl black, Lcpl worth, Lcpl Scare, Lcpl Rob. Four anti tanks, Lcpl Quinn, Lcpl Mul, Lcpl Len, Pfc Trey. Our fearless leaders, Lieutenant Sir and Sergeant Silks. And of course, myself as acting machine gunner.

Veterans Day Honor For Dan Bullock the youngest soldier to die in the Vietnam War
The Beginning Dan Bullock was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina, and lived there until the age of 11. This is when his mother died and he along with his younger sister, Gloria, moved to Brooklyn, New York to live with their father and stepmother. Some reports say that it was his grandmother's death that caused him to move to New York. His goal was to become a police officer, a pilot, or a U.S. Marine. Due to racial discrimination African American soldiers often did not receive the same honor as their white comrades.

There’s an oddly prescient moment, early in the remarkable, harrowing 1984 film The Killing Fields, about journalists working in Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge takeover, where a cynical war photographer for the New York Times, played by John Malkovich, looks doubtfully at the occupying Khmer Rouge guerrillas, many of them 14- and 15-year-old conscripts, some of them with yellow peace flowers sticking out from the barrels of their AK-47 assault rifles, and remarks to Times war correspondent Sydney Schanberg, played by Sam Waterston: “I wonder if these guys are for real.”

They work hard, they dream big and they make it happen. So as my way to say thank you, you have to look at their businesses. I have and I this has nothing to do with any thing other than my respect for their hard work and ingenuity .
