Tory Views on How We Should Live
So, Tory Minister Dr. Phillip Lee has decided that we're all a selfish lot and don't care for our elderly parents enough. I wonder, is he talking about successful businessmen, etc. not paying out for nurses and home-helps for their parents? Is he talking about, for instance, high-flying government ministers who should perhaps give up those responsible positions to spend more time with their elderly relatives? (Can he provide an example of this happening?) Or is he talking about people with no money, or who work every hour they can to support their own kids, driving themselves further into poverty, and debt by taking on the care of their parents as well? I think you'll find it's the latter. And would I, when the time comes, want my kids to waste their opportunities just to make my dotage a little less miserable than it will, almost inevitably, be? Time the Tories stopped trying to tell the rest of us how we should live I think—as if they have any idea at all.

You Cannot 'Escape' Racism
These arguments have been going on for a long, long time. I know a lot of us are feeling heavy right now, especially with the protests, and the violence, and shootings, and wave after brutal wave of seemingly endless pain and suffering. I haven’t gotten involved up until this point, but something happened earlier this week that has prompted me to no longer remain silent. I want to use this example, specifically, as a highlight for the protests and violence erupting over race. (Also, as an example to my White brothers and sisters in here, in case they’re in a similar situation and might not know how to go about it.)

My First Protest
The Conservative Party Conference was in Manchester last week, and plenty of people were unhappy about it. This isn’t a huge surprise as they’re lagging behind in the polls, social problems are rife, and the government is single-mindedly pushing through a disastrous exit from the European Union — a move that will leave the UK worse off on just about every metric. Still, we have to respect the Will of the People — even if they’re too uninformed to know what’s good for them (the UK media and government have become notorious for downplaying the EU's successes in Britain and exaggerating the negatives).

Is Trump Evil?
One thing trump is known for is being "evil." A lot of people would agree; rest in peace, Hillary Clinton supporters. The problem with last year's election was the hate. It was never "I love Trump" or "I love Hillary," it was always "I hate him/her." But the people would do the exact same thing if given a second chance. America is a big ethnic salad, and every old white guy was expected to vote for Trump. Well, I'm pretty sure that almost 50% of America is not old white men.

What happened Sunday night on the Las Vegas strip was perversely, singularly American. The nation’s sense of its size, its culture, its broad existential vistas, its romance with armada, its literal and spiritual wide-open spaces — all collided with its tragic irony as a nation whose pugnacious, futurist identity derives from the ballistics of 250 years ago. Sunday’s events were a malign form of so-called American exceptionalism: What took place outside the Mandalay Bay Hotel probably couldn’t have occurred in any other country in the world.

And, the Carnage Continues
Could it be that the times of today are masked by the Devil's hand? One has to wonder considering the carnage that played out in Las Vegas. The perpetrators of calamity continue to carry out their heinous acts of unspeakable terror. Each violent act is proceeded by yet another more devastating slaughter of innocent lives. We have to remember that it was just about a year ago that another willful act of senseless murder eclipsed yet another murderous atrocity that was carried out before. It is as though every year there is yet another more tragic senseless loss of life by someone that is willfully aware of what they do. It doesn't help that the United States has by far the largest collection of deadly weapons of any other nation that are in the hands of their citizens either.

What Is Happening to America?

Planet in Peril
Everybody is talking about climate change and the need for green energy production, in order to curb greenhouse gas emissions. I want to demonstrate the link between greenhouse gas emissions, carbon foot prints, and their inexorable link to economies. I want to show why climate change, to some countries at least, there are very limited options for tools to fight the problem. But, first, if you allow me, I want to recapitulate some basic facts on climate change as they are known within the scientific community and to the general public.
