Trump Touts Third Term.

Trump's Very Long State of The Union Address.

Trump at The Lectern.

Trump must be one of the most boastful men on Earth. In his dreams, he probably sees himself as Superman, not unlike that Spitting Image puppet of Ronald Reagan in the 80s, a Genesis video "Land of Confusion" where Reagan rides a Triceratops putting everything right. In the video, Reagan is dressed as Superman and a cowboy. He wakes up next to his wife Nancy and realises it was all an illusional dream. Strange irony, really, as Trump has a picture of Ronald Reagan in the Oval Office. And we know while Trump doesn't literally think he is Reagan come again (although that wouldn't surprise me!), he is certainly an admirer of Reagan.

Trump launched into his State of the Union address. This address was supposedly the longest address to the nation of any president in recent times. Trump mentioned that he may consider running for a third time. To most Democrats, that would have set alarm bells. Many of his Republican supporters would have cheered, while others may not have been surprised. Could Trump actually run for a third term? Well, he could theoretically change the constitution. To change this to allow him to run for a third term would require the endorsement of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Given the vast chasm in the US between left and right, Trump would not get his amendment carried, it is thought.

Trump has dropped in popularity among many Americans who supported him. Tariffs, blaming Biden for everything, and adventures abroad like Venezuela, Greenland, and Iran, when he promised no more forever wars, have not helped his support. His unhealthy relationship with Netanyahu has not helped. Many Americans see the US doing Israel's bidding, and frankly, they are sick of it. Trump said he would put America first, and to these Americans, it's more like putting Israel first!!!

Trump has boasted he has stopped 8 wars. Has he, though? I guess you can use the logic that these supposed 8 potential wars never happened. However, bringing peace to the war between Russia and Ukraine is a different kettle of fish. Despite meeting after meeting, nothing has come out of these meetings. Trump can't even get Putin and Zelenskyy sit across the table. So, despite all the talk, the war goes on, walking the walk of total war. What about Gaza and Israel? Even though a supposed ceasefire is in place, Hamas stands in the ruins of Gaza, depleted but still very much around. Israel has not withdrawn from the territory of Gaza that it holds. Israel is still conducting military strikes, blaming Hamas, and that's how it goes.

Trump abducted Nicolas Maduro from Venezuela, but he left the same government under Delcy Rodriguez in power. And what is going on there now, it's hard to say for certain. Trump has assembled a huge task force off the shores of Iran to save protesting Iranians. Now it's back to that old chestnut of Iran's nuclear programme. Then there's Greenland, where Trump made the prospect of a war between the US and other NATO members a very real prospect. Thankfully, the matter was resolved, but it has not gone away. Trump has spoken about taking over Canada or making the Panama Canal American, but for the moment, these two issues have gone quiet.

While Trump has had some effect on the border with migration down, his ICE security apparatus is responsible for rounding up illegal immigrants and has courted controversy. Two white people, obviously anti-ICE, died in controversial circumstances. Native Americans have been rounded up when they are the most American of American people. Because they look indistinguishable from illegal migrants from Central and South America. ICE needs to do its research before arresting US citizens.

So this is the state of the Union under Trump. What happens next in Trumpland can only be speculative, but whatever he does or says doesn't surprise me or anyone else, for that matter. The only certainty with Trump is the uncertainty.
