solo travel
You've got somewhere to go, but no one to go with; solo travel is the nexus of independence and opportunity.
The greatest city in the world
The last time I visited Paris, I had braces on my teeth and problematic teenage acne pockmarking my face. I was going through a serious awkward phase and spent most of my days being driven around on a coach packed with 60 other teenagers with similar, life changing problems.

There is nothing louder than silence, Quiet.
After being locked down in one of the most restrictive cities in the United States for most of the year and several tried but failed travel attempts, I finally arrived in Istanbul, Turkey. This city has become my refuge more than once the past 8 years. I still remember the first time I arrived to the great Constantinople, it felt like coming home from a century’s long journey. This city has a soul, if it had a spirit animal it would be a barn owl, old and wise, its vibrant colors are electrifying, mysterious and full of life, always moving, always going, most active at night. This pandemic was starting to take a toll on me, I need now more than ever for the city to calm the storm inside of me. I need my internal battery to be recharged, I need to feel the mundane of normal life again.

Just me myself and I traveling
Always make the best of things Having family living in different states has always made me excited to go visit them. Traveling is one of my favorite things to do but It can be hard waiting on someone else to go with you. In 2019 I planned a trip to visit a family member living in Orlando. I had never been to Disney World or Universal before and I was so excited to finally have that chance. Until I got the text that my family member planned a trip the same exact week I would be there and yes they knew the dates I would be there way in advance. Obviously, I was terribly upset, but I always look on the positive side of things. I was going to Disney world and Universal!! I decided rather than cancel this amazing trip I had planned I would go anyways. Besides, it was my birthday, I was going to make a dream come true of swimming with the dolphins on my actual birthday, so what if I was alone. My family members loss then.

I'm Ridin' Solo
What makes the perfect trip? Is it the food? The culture? Is it the welcoming smiles that greet you after a long ride or flight that whisper to your soul, that tell you it was all worth it? Immersing yourself in the local culture? Some may even say the sights that glaze across their eyeballs as they marvel at the landscapes, architecture and overall beauty of the location. Me? Well, it's quite simple. The thought of experiencing AT LEAST one major trip alone.

What Japanese Culture and Being an Outsider Can Teach You about Writing
As far back as I can remember I’ve always wanted to be a gaijin. Gangster, I meant Gangster. But, you see, I’m gaijin. I’ve always been gaijin. And I think it’s about time that all writers claimed the word gaijin as their own.

I read Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley close to twenty years ago. The story starts where Gone With the Wind ends. Scarlett and Rhett appear to be over for good. Tara is no longer the safe haven of her childhood, but rather a place full of memories and heartache. Scarlett is alone, no longer wealthy, and in need of healing and a fresh start. She decides to go to Ireland where her roots are. She wants to make peace with her past.
