Close Encounters of the Human Kind
There is a protocol to be observed on my lakeside walk. It governs the early morning greeting. Once it is firmly established that you regularly walk, then you graduate from a nod of acknowledgement to eventually saying “Good morning”. After some weeks, you may add a comment on the weather, but that is generally the limit of conversation.

Close Encounters of the Human Kind
Early morning exercise over, resting on a park bench watching the sunrise change the light on the water. Thoughts tumbling through my mind, triggered by a bouquet, commemorating some ancestral anniversary, left by a brass plaque of dedication.

At the Beginning
There is no better way to begin than to begin. I joined VocalMedia four years ago. For whatever reason, I did no more than that. I didn’t even read, preferring to return to the nests I’d made at Medium and at Substack. As time went on, I wanted more than what I was getting from those two publishing platforms. More morphed into an author’s website at PaulineEvanosky.com and to a revamping of a website I’d had since 2001 on the Blogger platform called TalkingtoSpirit.com. The reason for the shift for that site from a BlueHost website package to the Blogger platform was money. I’d gotten a bill for $735 from BlueHost and said, “That is too darn expensive.” Lo and behold, being on Blogger again, which was free, meant I needed to publish more often. And so, a maniac writer emerged from the shadows.

Strawberry ice cream
We were walking around the suburbs with a strawberry ice cream in each of our hands. He never liked strawberry flavoured things but he insisted we get the same ice cream flavour. Out of curiosity, I asked him why and this was his response: “when I eat the same ice cream as you, I get to taste what your lips taste like at this very moment.”
