Shards Of Paradise
I saw the crushed body of a Gazan child. Their blood was beading on the dusty cinderblocks of the destroyed building they called home. I swipe my finger, and see Charlie Kirk, reclining up on stage, make a joke about the destruction of those buildings, and the bodies that are buried there. I swipe again, and see his body jolt as a bullet bursts his neck and blood gushes out. I can find someone to cheer and chant for every patch of running blood, and justify any act of political violence.

Death On Death
A petrol sheen glimmered on the water’s surface, where all the ripples of my units passage through the dead swamp had long since dissipated. It was deep as my calves, but like most water it was such a murky, toxic brown I couldn’t see the bottom. It stank more than most, though, like ammonia and chlorine.

Slewfoot: 200 Word Reviews #14
Slewfoot by Gerald Brom is a folk horror flavoured historical fantasy tale that makes up for its lack of fear factor with horrifying injustice and satisfactorily violent female rage-fuelled revenge, though with a narrative so neatly woven it feels a little artificial.

We: 200 Word Reviews #13
We by Yevgeny Zamyatin is a groundbreaking, forward-thinking, and experimental gem of mildly unpleasant reading. D-503 lives in the United State, where everyone sleeps in glass-houses, wears the same clothes, and march in unison as they follow the Timetables, proscribing how each moment of the day must be spent, under the watchful eye of the Well-Doer. D-503 is the builder of the Integral, a spaceship that will carry their philosophy of perfectly ordered happiness to other worlds. All is in its place, until he meets I-330, who leads him down a path of chaos in freedom.
