TAG! Photo Game
If you’ve been following my Ekphrastic Two challenge, you may remember hints of a second challenge-thingy. During photo submissions for the former, I created a separate folder for a non-committal photo-prompt-thing, open to anyone. Only a handful of you added photos there, but I’ve added 5 more from the ekphrastic challenge. (Think we’re up to 21 at the time of publication.) Then later, I described the general premise of this challenge as being like a game, where creators can tag their writer friends to write for a particular photograph, thereby creating a chain.

"Aubrey" – Bread (1972)
Here is a song that captures my heart. It makes me sway, mindless to everything except the words and its daydream. In less than four minutes, the pure magic of David Gates is completely encompassed. Is it rare to find a song whose music perfectly matches its lyrics, whose melody is not overly vain, nor underdeveloped? Every particle of this song’s light is warm and dances like the manifestation of art itself.

Winners of Ekphrastic Two!!
It is done! The second ekphrastic challenge has concluded, and with 9 of the 14 photos being written for! And WOW. This batch of stories and poems is incredible. Seriously, I thought I was maxed out on being impressed, but you just had to go and prove me wrong. Of course with such gorgeous photographs, I shouldn’t be surprised, should I?

When Contradicting Images Reveal More Than Logic. Top Story - July 2024.
I have a history of analyzing the utterly brilliant and soul-touching poetry of Mesh Toraskar. It seems I’m unable to read his poetry and move on with my life, as each line, each half-line, each word is so rich with imagery, references, concepts, et cetera, that it requires taking slow, quiet time to fully appreciate it all. He took quite a long break at the beginning of the year before returning in April with the stunner, “fresh terror to love.” He has published two more pieces since then, one poem and one Feast narrative, both of which I highly recommend. You’ll quickly deduce that I will recommend everything this man has written. Anyway, I promised to come back when words were no longer failing me and I did not. A lot has happened to me and it simply has not stopped, yet this is no excuse for being mute to the following beauty.

Reminder: Ekphrastic Challenge!
Hello, lovely Vocalites! As has become my MO, I’ve come here today to remind all who have entered this challenge that we have just about 21 days until the deadline. I’m very excited to read everyone’s story or poem (or both!). To those who have already submitted, THANK YOU! I’ll be reading those ones in the coming days! There is no submission limit, remember, so if you’ve a mind to write another, I’d be delighted to read it. 😝

Our Community Playlist!
Wow! For being a community challenge, I am impressed by how cohesive this playlist ended up being! The vibes are pretty consistent, with enough variety to make it interesting and keep the pace engaging. And it's an absolute joy to listen to.

Music Prompt? Music Thingy!. Top Story - May 2024.
At work a few weeks ago, I was using that Spotify DJ thing, the AI tool that slightly bugs me on principle, but not enough for me to boycott it. (You know the one?) Anyway, I was jamming out to songs I was familiar with, a few new ones, and then all of a sudden, I was stopped in my tracks.
