Man
“Come on, it’s okayyyy!” my voice is cracking. How is something so little, so strong? I’m in the middle of a Chic-fil-a parking lot and it’s crowded. I’m not sure if he is afraid of all of the cars, the people or me. One thing is for sure, he is not moving. I tug at his leash. He is an immovable mound of jet black fur with a sweet puppy dog face.

The Sewing Box
Would she love me? Would she resent me? Those were early on questions that would remain unanswered for now. Ten years passed since I allowed those questions to enter in my mind, and if I'm honest with myself, they had the potential to pierce my self worth. Even though the answers to those questions were revealed subtly over the years, there was an unexpected gift about to be invisibly unwrapped that created the answer that rested my heart.

Harper
When David took Harper from the house, all she had was the dress she was wearing and her doll, Lady Buttons. Mother hadn’t moved in days. When Harper had listened at her chest for a heartbeat, there had been none. The blood had long dried and the smell was unbearable in the heat.

Christmas with Corey
Five days before Christmas 2020, I was busy like always, rushing and shopping. This Christmas was not expected to be any different from the last two Christmases. The family would gather at my oldest sister's house on Christmas day. Ella was married with two children and a wonderful husband. They met in college and had been married for five years. My parents had passed. There is Ella, Gina, James and myself left in the immediate family circle. James is still in college and Gina is a nun. I am a single 26 year old living alone in a condo.

To My Mothers, With Gratitude
To Judith, the woman that adopted and raised me, to the woman that taught me everything, to the woman that took in her neighbor's granddaughter as soon as she ended up in foster care, these are the words I’ve never had the chance to say to you.

THE GOOD - THE BAD - THE UGLY
My Journey of Discovery continued, seemingly at a snail’s pace! After discovering my sister’s adopted family name, it still took at least another six months for me to make any headway. I had posted part of the family story on a genealogy board in the town where we had been born. I was also using a genealogy site and had been for years now. I had a binder FULL of handwritten notes and letters and searches by “experts” and still nothing!
