Yellow Lights, Lucky Breaks & Borders
Crossing the Alameda border, I reached up and knocked twice on the car ceiling with my curled index and middle fingers. “Why do you do that?” Cynthia twirled a section of her long, coppery tresses; it was a fidget that I had long grown to love. She was perfect—literally everything that I had asked for. A redhead who looked like she had it all together and was a little crazy in the best way: great with fixing cars, loved dogs, and had a huge heart. She was amazing, and once again I looked at her and felt like the luckiest man alive.

The Room With No Exit. Content Warning.
Aamir was a traveling journalist, always chasing abandoned buildings for his articles. When he discovered an old hospital on the outskirts of the city, he was thrilled. Stories of patients disappearing and strange accidents had circulated decades ago. Most locals avoided the place entirely, calling it cursed or haunted. Aamir, armed with his camera, flashlight, and a notebook, ignored the warnings. To him, it was a story waiting to be told, proof that the supernatural was nothing more than exaggeration and fear.

A Gift of Snow and Ice; Chapter 5
No one knew what to do. To be fair, no one had any experience with this kind of situation: a human becoming fae and also getting winter gifts in the summer realm. No one even knew what it meant- much less why I was freezing cold to the touch yet never felt cold myself. Not that I ever felt warm either; I could barely feel heat at all. Then again warm things didn't stay warm long in my grasp.

The Map That Wasn’t Supposed to Exist
Nobody believed the map was real. That was the funniest part. It showed up on a random Tuesday, folded inside an old library book that nobody ever checked out anymore—Maritime Myths of the North Atlantic. The cover was cracked, the pages smelled ancient, and it felt like the kind of book that had already lived a full life. I only grabbed it because the Wi-Fi was down and I was bored out of my mind.

Platform 4
She was with Lucas, the love of her life, and they were going to their last date, at a motel. After this, they were finally going to get married. At night, the train station felt like a threshold between worlds. There was a cool breeze which carried the calming scent of lavender. “I wish this feeling would never end”, said Lucas with a content expression. Maxine had one too. She was happy, an emotion she felt only when she was around him. That emotion, however, led to a series of events. As she happily twirled, carefree and on top of the world, she slid off the edge of the platform, landing harshly on the tracks.

Ghost Kitten Rise
There is another world that exists parallel to our own. It sits right beside us, and above us, and below us, and all around us, yet we never see it, and only very few of us ever sometimes feel it. That feeling may come as a cold chill, or a whisper from an empty room, or a tingle running down the spine, or any of a million other barely noticed disturbances to our ordinary everyday lives. We only notice because the feeling is so non-ordinary, so different from what we expect and are used to. Some people call it the spirit world, or another dimension or heaven or hell, but the name is not important, at least not for purposes of this story. What is important to understand about this other world is that it is inhabited by many creatures, some of which are formerly living beings from our own planet earth. Most people refer to these as ghosts, and they are feared by the still living. Some of these ghosts should be feared, but others are innocent and kind, even helpful to the living. There are other things in that world that are much more fearsome than the former living. They are natives of that world, and it is all they have ever known. However, they also know of the ghosts, and they know they come from another place. They very much desire to know what this other place is, where it is, and how to get there. They wish to conquer that world, our world, and make it their own. The reasons for this are not understood and there may be no reason, at least not one we could ever hope to comprehend. For countless millennia these beings have waited and watched and plotted and planned and made attempt after attempt to breach into our world.
