dog
It's no coincidence that a dog is a man's best friend; they're more faithful than most other animals, and more faithful than many people.
It's Not All About the Puppy Breath (Pt. 2)
Three months later and Gracie is still away being trained. As a doggy mom, I am furious because I have missed three months of my puppies cute and quick growth. She was teething the last time I saw her and now, she will have a full set of teeth. She was so little when she left and the next time I see her, she will be almost full grown. Am I being selfish for feeling cheated? As a puppy parent, I don't want to miss those moments but I also don't want to be self-absorbed and prevent her from fulfilling her desire to retrieve. I don't understand the sacrifice that I, as a puppy mom, had to give up because who purchases a dog "TO RETRIEVE DUCKS?" I am going to be honest with you, I don't get it, probably won't and most likely never will. I've been allowed one visit, and very few pictures since she left and yet since this process began, each day that the sun rises and falls, that brings me one day closer to her coming home for good. In spite of it all, I know her journey was worth my sacrifice of heartfelt tears. Although I am not an avid hunter, it makes this mom proud to know that each step that she blazes through makes her a stronger, better duck retriever.

Casanova
Let me introduce you to the animals in this photo. The bird is Lucy, our Senegal Parrot. The black and white pup is Little Miss, a Black Lab/Blue Heeler mix. The tan pup is the headliner, Casanova. We got him from a lady that rescued he and his siblings from the side of the road. When she advertised the puppies on Craig's List, she believed they were Chiweenies (Chihuahua/Dachsund). We later learned that they are in fact Dachshund/Hound, though we are not 100 percent certain what breed of hound. Because the puppies were rescues, their age is unknown too. We believe Casanova and Little Miss to be relatively close in age, and she is now six, turning seven in January.

Companionship
All my life, I grew up with a dog. Since before I could remember I had a furry best friend and now I don't have that in my life. When I was a baby my parents got a Samoyed puppy that I instantly bonded with. I grew up with her by my side and if I ever had a bad day or I was sad she was always there to cheer me up. I have always had a special connection with animals because of the relationships I had growing up. I've lived in my own apartment for nine months now completely companion free. It has been a lot harder than I had thought it would be.

Puppy Journey: Renpet's Story
When people think of having a new puppy most imagine those cute little smiles, all of the cuddles given and received and the new energetic being that will tug at your heartstrings. When I bought Renpet these were the main reasons that I made the decision to get a dog. I even spent the previous night looking up the perfect name for her. Renpet is the Egyptian goddess of the new year, fertility, spring and the mistress of eternity. I felt that this name was best fitting because this year was going to be a new start. On the ride there I imagined the walks that we would go on and how I was going to dress her up in cute outfits I've made for her. I was told I was getting a Jackabee, but to this day I don’t know what her exact breed is. Her fur... Dad and I fell in love with her the moment we laid eyes on her. She was so small and her eyes were light blue. I went into the Petco and her fur daddy watched her in the car and when I returned, I saw him with her in his coat on his chest. She seemed so peaceful and loving, and most of all so innocent. Renpet wasn’t given the warmest welcome when I brought her home to my parents. After a while everyone warmed up to her. She never liked being in the crate and would bark all through the night. I tried to bring her upstairs to my bedroom so she wouldn’t be alone, but she would bite me too much.

The Love of a Golden Retriever
He was bought without a second thought. He was meant to be a gift for me to not focus on the pain of my past. To heal the wounds that I have buried inside of me. But in reality, he had healed more than just me. When he entered my life, he was small, slept on my lap the whole way home. Wasn't as excited as his siblings were when I was able to pick out the one I wanted. His tail had a little nub on the top from a little accident. I think it made him special. His ears were darker than the rest of his fur. He was my saving grace. I stared at him as the car headed towards his new home. He was precious, whining ever so slightly before curling closer to me. I held him the whole way, never knowing that I was holding my whole world.

Inspired by My Best Friend
My stepdad brought Rocky home from work when he and some co-workers spotted him and the rest of his litter running around on the streets of West Baltimore. When he walked through the door with Rocky, my sister and I were started crying like normal eight and 10-year-olds do. Once his paws touched the floor, he ran to me and we became best friends ever since.

How My Dog Saved My Life
This is only a short story, but I have to tell it. This is Gypsy and she saved my life. For the past 10 years or so I’ve been fighting a battle with depression, and I even attempted to take my own life a few times, I felt like everything was getting too much and only I was to blame for that. With my brother in prison and my sister in a mental health institute, life became too much for me to handle.

Spike, Pongo, Sadie, and Allie
I had four dogs. One of them isn't pictured here. Her name is Dollie.Four beautiful lovely dogs. All with souls and were the best dogs we've ever had. Our beautiful dogs were taken from us way too early. Spike was a Black Labrador. The youngest member of our family. He had the most soulful eyes. He was a silly goofy boy! He was the biggest baby though. He loved going outside, playing tug of war, running around the yard with his rawhide bones and burying them so no one else could get them, barking at squirrels, birds, rabbits, and anyone who came up our driveway. He talked, smiled the biggest smile he could give when got into trouble. It was so funny and you couldn't help but laugh. He was a sweet heart. My late father coaxed him with dog treats and took him home. First, we thought it was Dollie, but Dollie didn't look like this big goofy puppy.

Goodbye Shiloh
I came home from school in a bad mood. I saw your leash outside and as I entered I yelled, "Why is there a leash outside?" Little did I know my life was about to get so much happier. I walked into the living room and saw a dog there. I said what's her name? My mom replied Shiloh (like the movie). Over the next little while, I taught her how to pee outside, how to sit, give paw, lay, and speak for a treat. I couldn't wait to get home from school anymore to see my little puppy. She was an excellent dog.
