Cameras can be complicated; a breakdown of the latest in camera technologies and photography techniques to help you get the perfect shot.
Why Your Next Camera Should Be Mirrorless
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote the article below citing four reasons your next camera should not be mirrorless and asked readers what they thought. It got a lot of readers and more than a few comments. Most of the comments were favorable. I am assuming they were from photographers who still shot with traditional DSLR cameras.

Confessions of a Wannabephotographer
I have to start with how much I have been inspired by photography. Three decades ago, while studying photography as a part of an ‘Art and Design’ course at a university bridging school, my photography teacher said “I can see you’re going to quit. Don’t give up photography. Do it part time as something you do as a single unit but don’t give it up.”

Real estate is one of the biggest industries and taking advantage of drone photography and videography was helping this industry to great extent. Drones were once used only for showcasing properties listed for sale but their uses expanded into other areas of real estate also.

"My Darkroom Is Filled With Light"
Excitement stirred in my chest as I opened up an old dusty box to reveal a camera of old. The more I looked around me the more I found. Dusty hardcover books were grouped with torn softcover books among fabrics that didn't seem to belong together. The sunlight seems to reveal a decay that had begun long ago from heat and time among other things. Mixed in among the weathered old photographs, the single baby shoe, disintegrating newspaper articles, and dilapidated dolls there they were. It was like opening a treasure chest. Only these treasures were better because they belonged to my ancestors. I could not find the significance of some of those treasures, but I recognized the value in others. Another one of the treasures I recognized among the items was a brilliant baby blue typewriter.

The Magic of the Collage
Taking photos is something I’ve come to do in my everyday life. The camera is a part of me and the photos are an extension of my thoughts and ideas. The use of collage however is ultimately what has led to some of my most compelling images. My individual shots often feel incomplete, being part of a bigger whole, something I can bring out in a collage. Whether it’s all from the same roll of film or an intentional project, I’ve created several collages in the last two years which have become some of my favourite projects to date. I’ll go through some of my favourite examples, describing the process and how I bring these ideas to life through editing.

Best Camera To Get If You Want To Be A Filmmaker.. Top Story - February 2021.
Hands down the best camera for someone who wants to get into Filmmaking is the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k. I have been in the filmmaking business since DV was a thing. You might not even know what that is, and that’s ok. The HDSLR’s movement revolutionized the industry. Affordable film-like quality at the lowest price point ever. Sure an HDSLR is cheaper than the Blackmagic and you get a beautiful depth of field but it's not as good as the BMPCC 4k for various reasons.

The Tiny Town With History On Every Corner
Well, here I am. Back in my hometown. I’ve moved away many times. I’ve made a home in several cities around the UK. I’ve lived in a few different countries. I’ve travelled the globe. When coronavirus unleashed itself on an unsuspecting world last March I was in Peru, finally about to fulfil a lifetime’s ambition of climbing up Machu Picchu. I didn’t quite make it. Instead I was locked down in a hotel room in Cusco for three weeks before being repatriated back to the UK on an emergency flight organised by the British government. And now I’m back in my hometown, in my childhood home.

The Myth of a Hometown
There’s a tree in Leamington that claims to be the centre of England. It’s not, but we’re pretty close. The actual middle of England is about 20 miles up the road and I think we just thought we’d have a speculative pop at the title. Who checks these things anyway? My Grandad once told me that cutting down the Leamington tree would cause the whole of England to collapse, like matter being sucked into a black hole.

I Love “iPhotos”
Growing up I wasn’t much into photography. But all that changed in 1971 when I was reassigned from the command of a rifle platoon to the command of the battalion motor platoon. This assignment meant that I would spend my days and nights on the fire base, instead of out in the boonies. Hence, I was finally able to purchase a decent camera, specifically a Mamiya Sekor 1000dtl, 55mm, f1:4 SLR. Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about. Prior to this purchase, all I had were Instamatics and Polaroids. Now, I wanted to shoot everything in sight. Somewhere I have a collection of shots from 1971-72 which I’ve not been able to locate.
