Missed Catch

By Anita Dotts

By Anita DottsPublished 2 months ago 1 min read

Chores done, escaped the slog

strapping my rod and tickle tackle

on the banana seat of my bike.

Free and speeding spewing gravel

from the dried-up driveway.

Fergusson Lake bound

for its stream outlet and trout.

The trickling brook is shallow

not bracken, just lively.

Shrubs and bushes tangle on the bank

snares for my casting hook.

Why does luck have to be fickle?

For one but not the other.

Sadly, the trees saw more of my bait

then those tricky trout escaping, swimming downstream.

Being skunked, resigned with no catch this day.
