Labour Minister: We Are Back to The Future.
Ukraine-Russia Conflict Similar to Run Up to World War II.

I have often thought that Russia being bogged down in Ukraine making incremental gains against a stubborn Ukraine defence is similar to when Japan was bogged down in China before the Second World War fighting the Chinese Nationalist forces for little gain. Yes, the Japanese like Russia now made some gains in captured territory. But at a huge cost to both sides like Russia and Ukraine now. In that respect history is repeating itself where another country invades and expects a victory to be in the enemy capital very soon, much like how US forces captured Baghdad in 2003. However, for Japan in China then and for Russia in Ukraine now that didn't/hasn't happened. Both Japan in China then and Russia in Ukraine now ended up in a slog fest with total victory out of sight.
Labour Minister Al Carns a Colonel in the Royal Marines Special Forces was asked whether he agreed with Vlodomyr Zelenskyy. Agreed with him about what? Zelenskyy said Russia fighting his Ukrainian forces had eery similarities to the lead up to WW II. Asked directly by Sky News did the conflict have similarities to the run up to World War II he said yes, history does repeart itself. Mr. Carns said Ukraine is the front line of Europe. Where NATO backing Ukraine is a fighting to hold Russia back.
Mr. Carns highlighted other flashpoints between Russia and NATO. The North Atlanitic for one and the Arctic for another. One recalls (not me personally because I wasn't there but historically) how during WW II German subs or u-boats patrolled waiting to sink American and British merchant ships. No doubt, Russian subs patrolling the Arctic and the Atlantic would perform a similar role should conflict break out between NATO and Russia.
Mr. Carns said Russia is a clear and present danger to Britain itself. For example, in the past Russia has made threats to fire missiles at Britain for it supporting Zelenskyy. Russian bombers have entered British air space or come near to entering it only to be escorted out by British Typhoon fighters. There's also cyber threats from Russia. Also, acts of sabotage within Britain either by Russian agents or Brits being paid by the Russians to get up no good. While Russia can't directly invade us Vlad "The Invader" Putin (a play on Vlad "The Impaler" ) is a threat in the ways I have articulated in this paragragph.
Chronologically, the actual war between Russia and Ukraine started in 2014. Just after Russia took over Crimea which was until then Ukrainian territory. Following the Maidan Revolution in Ukraine fighting then broke out between Russia and Ukraine. This fighting took place in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. From February 2014 to February 2021 12 years in all. Russia then launched a full scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022. This period from 2022 until 2026 has lasted 4 years and 2 days. So, the war grinds on for little gain with Russia paying the highest price in men and material. Ukraine too has suffered in men and material but it hangs on.
UKraine is backed by NATO and the US while Iran, China, and North Korea back Russia. This war could decide the future of Europe going forward. There are other worrying potential comflicts that could arise and cause WW III. China has its beady eye on Taiwan which it regards as a runaway province. Israel in the Middle East since the 7 October attacks by Hamas seems to have gone into an expansionist overdrive. The American build up of naval forces in the Gulf against Iran. An unpredictable President in the White House like Trump. So we are living on a knife edge and only God knows where it will end.
