A Little Life: A Big Feeling
Why was it so popular?! Unrealistic, melodramatic, depressing, unrelentingly bleak, overly long – 800 pages of emotional torture-porn. What did we learn from it all? Friendship good, abuse bad? What a revelation! The author desperately tried to make me feel something, and I did: anger. I f***ing hate this book.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Top Story - August 2023.
Sunny name: dark show. This searing societal satire hilariously skewers issues big and small, from gun control and abortion rights to misunderstanding emojis and being shushed. Huge egos, short tempers, and hysterical situations make it an excellent sitcom; sharp, snappy writing and finger-on-the-pulse humour make it the longest-running in history.

The Spinster Life
The funny thing is, I doubt my life would be very different at all if I were born in the past. In another era, another place, I think I’d be living my life almost exactly the same as I am now. I’m currently a teacher, writer, and spinster. Yes, at 32 and single, I’m a modern-day old maid with no plans to change that any time soon, to the disgust of men all over the internet.

If I were born in a different historical time period, what would my life be like? It’s a question I’ve pondered many times. It’s fun to imagine myself in a previous era, meeting famous figures from the past, witnessing monumental, world-changing events, living out historical fantasies. But really, if I were to be born in another era and live an even somewhat enjoyable life, I would first have to change everything about myself: my personality, parents, class background, gender.

Mary leaned against the wall and sighed inwardly. She hated these late showings. Her friends were out on the town tonight, dressed up to the nines, looking young, free, and beautiful. It was just after nine, so they would be at a bar now, sipping on small flutes of champagne that fizzed and sparkled like the girls themselves, feeling wild and alive on a warm summer’s evening in the greatest city in the world.
